City of Atlanta Water Supply Program

Technique Construction and Guy F. Atkinson Construction have teamed up to seamlessly execute the highly challenging Atlanta Water Supply Tunnel Phase I and Phase I Extension Project for the Atlanta Watershed Department. The project consists of a 5-mile, 12.5-foot diameter TBM-bored tunnel that will connect the Chattahoochee River and the old Bellwood Quarry with the existing Hemphill treatment plant. Repurposing the Bellwood Quarry will add 2.4 billion gallons of raw water reserve, increasing the city of Atlanta’s water supply from five days to over 30 days (up to 90 days in an emergency).
